London Mural Festival
London Mural Festival! What a brilliant week and such a rollercoaster.
My wall for the festival was the courtyard of Zetland House in Old Street London. This building used to be the Royal Mint, with many of the factory features still in place, very cool. Many artists have painted here previously, including Banksy according to the owner, so I am now a part of that linage. David Shillinglaw also worked on a large exterior wall of the same building the week before me for London Mural Festival.
I was given complete artistic freedom on the design which was such a joy! These metallic forms in motion appear to have fallen from the sky into the courtyard. They are a visual expression of how I feel my soul navigates through life. Energy in motion, working out what loops to jump through and which to avoid. Many circumstances changing along the way with knowledge and understanding of life moving in and out of focus as we pass through time.
I met some incredible people that were helping me throughout the week. Shout out to Hadley and Harry. I also had the most intense media run of my life! Interviews for news channels in China, New Zealand, The BBC, Sky Arts. They say practice makes perfect hey.
The line up for this festival was delightful. So many artists I admire and many more I had the chance to learn about. It was about time London! Covid scuppered the usual socials that would have happened so I’m sad to say I didn’t met as many of these stars as I would have liked to. Hopefully another year.
I sharpened my craft for the most part around East London, so this really did feel like a culmination of everything I’ve learnt over the last seven years being showcased in the place where it all started for me. I love London. I love East London. Thanks for having me.
